Poundland is launching a new skincare range and people are asking whether it is possible to get good quality skincare for such a low price.
The range of 6 key items includes micellar cleanser, anti-ageing day/night creams, collagen wrinkle ‘filler’, serum and eye cream. Ingredients such as collagen and vitamins make it sound very attractive.
I News looked at the “#6” range and Dr Ross Perry, Medical Director of Cosmedics Skin Clinics, gave his expert views:
With regard to the Poundland range, the products do seem to include some popular ingredients such as vitamins, but in reality they may be included in very small amounts and may therefore not be of any particular added benefit beyond any other basic skincare products without them.
I would not expect radical anti-ageing results, as those tend to require much more intensive products. However, if you’re after a simple and cost-effective skincare range, at this price, it may be worth a shot.

Dr Perry advocates a good, regular skincare regime:
When it comes to skincare, the most important thing is to have a regular routine for cleansing, moisturising and protecting the skin against the sun. Doing this as opposed to not doing it has the most major impact on the condition of your skin.
Once that is established, the next factor is choosing suitable products, and here things get a bit more complicated, as the choice in skincare is endless. Price is not always an indicator of effectiveness – some premium products can include hefty amount of cost for advertising and packaging – and some fairly plain products can actually be quite effective as a simple moisturiser. However, those products with high levels of active ingredients – ‘cosmeceuticals’ – will be more expensive due to the formulation and also the requirement for professional dispensing.
Cosmeceutical skincare tends to contain a much more higher concentration of active ingredients and costs more, but can be expected to deliver some quite radical results. It is an excellent choice for those with difficult skin conditions, such as pigmentation, sun damage, rosacea or acne. Cosmedics Beauty offer the ZO Skin Health range which can be individually tailored to the user’s needs.
In addition, Cosmedics Beauty offer the ZO Ossential Stimulator Peel, which is available in their two London salons with trained beauty therapists. The ZO Stimulator peel is very effective on its own or for use alongside a ZO Skin Health regime.
