Skin peels are a very effective way of perking up dull skin.
A peel works to take off the top layer of dead and loose skin cells, revealing fresher and brighter skin beneath.
They can also help to improve fine lines and even blemish-prone skin.
It is now possible to purchase peels for use at home, but are they worth it?
Well it very much depends on which peel you are using. Logic says that stronger peels in general can deliver better results, but there are quite rightly limits to the strength of products available for use at home.
Chemical peels available in a salon are generally made of stronger solutions with more active ingredients. It is important that they are applied by a trained therapist who can carefully apply the peel while the client just lies back and relaxes. The therapist will time the peel and remove it thoroughly before applying cooling serums or creams appropriate to the client’s skin type.
This level of peel is not suitable for DIY use.
However, home or DIY peels have improved and although they don’t offer salon strength results, a regular at-home peel can be a very useful accompaniment to your beauty regime.
There are skin peels available for all skin types and it’s important to choose the right one for you. For best results, ask a trained beauty therapist about which to choose and also how often you should use it, as overuse can lead to red, dry or flaky skin.
