holiday beauty tipsIf you’re planning a long haul journey, what tips can help you to look gorgeous rather than dishevelled on arrival?

This advice was provided by Emirates cabin crew in a feature on This team knows all about looking their best on a long flight.

  1. Avoid wearing make up when you fly if possible and especially on longer flights. Ensure skin is well moisturised and hydrated. You can always apply fresh makeup just before landing if you need to.
  2. Alternate your seat position between upright and reclined during the flight to avoid puffy eyes. You can also perk up tired or puffy eyes with a damp serviette to reduce puffiness.
  3. Keep active by taking a walk through the cabin or at the very least do circulatory exercises such as foot rotations to keep the blood flowing, avoid puffy ankles and also relax your muscles.
  4. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. Avoid tea/coffee -water or fruit juice is far more beneficial.
  5. Bring a neck pillow to stop your hair getting squashed flat. A ponytail is also a good idea to keep hair under control. Dry shampoo can boost flagging locks if you need to look your very. Eat on arrival.
  6. Blusher can add instant radiance and a tinted lip balm can perk up the face too.
  7. Wear something comfortable when travelling and fold any excess clothing carefully to avoid the creased look. Sunglasses, a scarf or a hat are practical but highly stylish ways of looking good when you travel.
  8. Pack a few beauty comforts such as hand cream and lip balm in your hand luggage. Don’t forget a pair of cosy socks to keep your feet warm.
  9. Recommendations for travel-friendly products by Joanna Collins, 26, who has been an Emirates Cabin Crew for three years, says:

“Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant soothes and protects your skin and is great for rehydrating chapped lips, adding shine to eyelids and cheeks. I also love Hypnose Mascara by Lancome to adds volume to the eyelashes which makes you look refreshed especially after a long flight. And Touché Éclat by Yves Saint Laurent instantly brightens your complexion.”

Pre-Holiday Treatments

According to Cosmedics’ Putney Beauty Salon, hair removal is top of the list for pre-holiday treatments.

The salon offers waxing for the face and body, ideal for a quick treatment on the body or face and perennially popular. However, for longer term results, more and more patients – male as well as female – are now turning to laser hair removal, which uses advanced technology to destroy the follicle so that hair cannot regrow. This  will usually show progress after just one session, but requires a course of treatment for best results in order to destroy the maximum number of follicles while they’re in the active growth phase. Therefore the advice is to start treatment as early as possible in order to enjoy the smooth skin and lower maintenance on hair removal in time for the vacation.
